Joke Frima, was born in The Hague, Netherlands, and is presently living in France. She exhibits mainly in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

1969 Academy of Fine Arts , Rotterdam
1970 Academy of Fine Arts, Tilburg, The Netherlands

After wasting her time in the art schools in the Netherlands for so many years, she met by chance Signorina Nerina Simi in Florence Italy. Joke studied in Studio Simi from September 1976 until September 1984 and learned all the classical basic techniques from Signorina Simi. In 1977-78 She received a grant from the Greenshield foundation.

1984 moved back to the Netherlands
1999 Moved to France
2007 Moved from Biches to Vissingy.

Joke Frima has a very spacious and bright studio as well as her own exhibition space. It is situated in the former school in the hamlet Vissingy, in Bourgogne France. She organizes an annual exhibition usually in May. Her studio in the Netherlands is in Driebergen (near Utrecht).

For the numerous exhibitions and art fairs Joke Frima travels regularly to the Netherlands. The combination of the very rural and quiet environment in which to work and the frequent busy visits to the Netherlands proves to be particularly fruitful.

Joke Frima finds her subject matter in everyday beauty in nature. In her vegetal still lives she shows us nature not yet picked clean or manicured by man. She looks for common things like a meadow with butterbur, a cluster of strawberries or dandelions. The low viewpoint she chooses, Frima appears to be lying in the grass, makes you want to creep deep into her paintings to find your own way through the leaves. In an abstracted play of texture, rhythm, light and colour, Frima manages to evoke a sense of calm and harmony in a rather modest subject and also grab the viewers' full attention. Simulacrum is winner First Place Prize of the Landscape Category- International ARC Salon 2013-14.
