"Capturing distinct qualities of an everyday object can bring about a focused perspective, giving a whole new viewpoint. For my still life, I wanted to explore lighting, detail and the quality of a simple object using alla prima. Using the mystery of edges, color values, spacing, and shapes seen by the artist's eye, these elements transformed into a tangible piece for the viewer. In my growing practice of oil painting, I wanted to explore the direct painting style amid the simplicity of a still life.

I challenge myself to be the best I can be. I have personal hopes of seeing the youth be a foundation of the traditional arts as it has been in history. I believe these traditions are important to build a continuum for the future. Not only does this painting represent me and my hunger for knowledge of the traditional arts, but it also represents the advocacy for proper training of the youth." - FINA MOONEY
