The Search by Karl Wennergren

I don’t like to give away too much of what a painting is about, since I believe that interpretation should be left open to the viewer. Therefore I won’t relate my intent with the picture, but instead go into the process of making it.

This painting started out as a rather abstract and simple sketch on paper. There was something I found interesting about it but I wasn’t quite sure what that was. I decided that I would find that out in the process and so I started painting. I often know or at least have a strong idea of where I want to end up with a painting, but this time I was quite clueless, lost in the middle of this alien landscape, trying my best to paint myself into some kind of conclusion. This time the rider and I were both set on this journey, this search.
