Katrina is a highly personal work for me that highlights a group of struggling survivors in a diaster zone. As a Louisiana native, this painting is inspired by both Gericault's Raft of Medusa and Hurricane Katrina, presenting the strength of the human spirit in the face of great adversity.
I spent months thumbnailing various compositions, working with models and painting several passes. The painting was recently exhibited in a show at the Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale WA titled "Atelier: Painting and Process."
This piece highlights my growing interest in a narrative, multi-figured painting, and I am currently working on a series of paintings in this style.
