“Deep in the Chihuahuan Desert is a natural spring, which spreads across a thick bed of bentonite clay. This setting stimulates a primal human connection with the earth whenever it is encountered and stirs the imagination. Quick, heavy rains temporarily block the sun, but the light returns to bake the clay and heat the pools left by the showers. My intention was to faithfully represent the voluminous stone shapes surrounding the crystal-clear pools of fresh spring water that were begging to be stirred and manipulated. My daughter demonstrates the irresistible desire to fuse with the clay in Aqua Fria.” – TERESA ELLIOTT
