This strive for life, this strong unconscious drive for all species that was crucial for pushing us through evolution to become the complex beings that we are, may still have an unconscious hold on us.  Guiding our actions, which now have less to do with survival and necessity they may actually lead to self destruction if not recognized.  We may starve, in the end, due to our abundance.
