The inspiration for this drawing is the story of the extinction of one of the earth’s most abundant birds—the Passenger pigeon. I read in several sources they used to fly in flocks that darkened the skies for hours.

In creating this piece of art, I wanted to tell the story of the bird’s journey through time. As I worked on it, I found myself wishing I could travel back in time and really see a flock in flight. If only people were a little more thoughtful, perhaps the Passenger pigeon would still be around today.
