"Maisha" is Swahili for life. Elephants are my favorite animal and in 2013 I was in Tanzania with a group of artists learning more about the ongoing poaching crisis of the African Elephant. While on safari we found this deceased elephant and we were worried that we had found an elephant that had been poached, to our relief the elephant had died naturally. It still had its tusks, if it had been poached the tusks would have been missing. I knew I needed to create a piece of art from that moment showing the natural course of life.
