A beautiful or dramatic landscape painting begins with the good luck of being in the right place at the right time. With that in mind, I like to visit the Gulf Coast of Florida during the warm monsoon season of June or July when fantastic cloud formations approach over the water in daily, sometimes hourly, processions.
My last trip yielded this view from the window of the plane on the first leg of my return flight to California. I captured it with an iPhone at 8:30 in the morning over the water between Fort Meyers and Houston. As the sun came up it was like “the first day the earth woke up to light.” So said a friend upon seeing the painting.
