Oil on Wood

This work is on loan from a private collection.

On a warm Spring afternoon while walking my dogs, I witnessed a crystalline moment when I came upon two children in a dogwood tree playing the game they called “Nature Girls”. I was struck by the clear understanding that they were experiencing the space and freedom to discover and be exactly who they chose to be and how they defined themselves and their world. The unquestioned confidence that these two had in the command of their magical fortress was so tenderly held by the heartbreaking, fragile softness of their rapidly forming personalities. Feeling a direct link to my own childhood imaginary adventures climbing trees, and then the unexpected turns and challenges in my path later on, I so wanted to embrace this moment in time forever.
