The concepts surrounding a self portrait are some of the most engaging in all of art. How does the artist see themselves? How do we wish to be seen? How do others see us? For myself, studying in Florence, I was always drawn to the works of Pontormo, Cellini, Bronzino and Michelangelo. I decided to place myself, a modern day student, looking back to the Renaissance and Mannerist periods to create a bridge evoking my taste and how my taste influences my art education. This piece is a depiction not only of myself, but of my hopes to harmonize past and present within my work.
