I painted this portrait of my father, an artist, in his studio. I grew up playing around his easel and basking in the glow of north light, soaking in the beauty of painting. It has always been my favorite place to be, and when he walked in one day wearing his overcoat and lighting a pipe, I had to paint him. He wears a three-piece suit to work every day, so I was able to catch him in motion without sacrificing his everlasting elegance.
