Carson Grubaugh earned an MFA in Painting from the Cranbrook Academy of Art as well as BFAs in Fine Art and Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley. He was named the Mercedes Benz Financial Services Emerging Artist of 2011, was a keynote speaker at the 2013 Difference That Makes a Difference Conference at the Open University and has shown in the US, Germany, England at venues such as The Cranbrook Museum of Art, Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, ABTART, Windsor Jewish Community Center, PUSH Gallery, Virginia Beach Museum of Contemporary Art, ARC Gallery, and The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio, Museum of New Art, Hudson Valley Art Association, among many others.
Carson often entertains the idealist desire to transcend physical reality, but as a committed realist knows this is nonsense. His recent paintings are an extension of this inner struggle.
