Leeanna Chipana M.F.A. is an artist and educator living and working in NY. She is a graduate of the Grand Central Atelier and earned her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the New York Academy of Art. She is currently teaching a Foundations Drawing and Traditional Painting Methods course at the New York Fashion Institute of Technology. Tapping into her Indigenous Quechua-Peruvian and Irish-American heritage she paints imaginative figures in an idealized world where European and Indigenous iconography and textiles co-mingle on fabrics worn by members of this unique utopian society. Her models have a lineage to South and Central American indigenous native ancestry stretching across Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile through Mexico. Leeanna also studies ancient Moche pottery made in Peru over 1500 years ago and imbues the beauty she finds in this vessels in her work . Her work ranges from naturalism to surrealism.
