Named one of our nation’s “Artist to Watch” by Southwest Art magazine and Fine Art Connoisseur magazine, American contemporary realist oil painter, Camille Engel, is an internationally acclaimed, published, and awarded winning artist. Known for her nature paintings, specifically for her detailed paintings of birds, Engel pursues the aims of the realist movement with remarkable passion and skill.

“I use the highest quality oils on museum-quality panel or canvas to create my paintings. During exhibitions, people often share with me how affected they are by the depth of color seen in my originals. As a self-taught oil painter, I’ve come to learn that my intuitive style of painting is the ‘indirect painting’ technique practiced by 17th century Dutch masters. I use glazes — thin transparent washes of paint — which allow light to bounce off the underlying opaque paint, to create luminosity. My layered glazes and precise perspectives give my paintings an illusion of depth and three-dimensionality on the flat surface. “Patient Observer” depicts a barn owl stretching his wing while perched in the window of an abandoned stone barn.”  – Camille Engel
