The Plein Air Landscape in Pastel with Liz Haywood-Sullivan, IAPS/MC, PSA-MP

Topics covered will include locating your composition, seeing color and value in the landscape, creating atmosphere and aerial perspective, evaluating light sources and their effects on the landscape. We will take
advantage of the proximity of campus buildings to include working with architecture and man-made elements in the landscape. A studio component will rely on field studies, memory and sketchbooking. Class will consist of demos, discussion, plein air and studio work, and formal critiques. Daily instruction and critiques at your easel.


This workshop is for intermediate level and above.

Liz Haywood-Sullivan is a traditional representational artist specializing in pastel landscapes. She is the president of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS), which represents 76 pastel societies worldwide, and also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Pastel Journal. She is a Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist and has her IAPS Masters Circle. She holds signature memberships in several pastel societies and belongs to the Salmagundi Club of New York City. Her award-winning paintings are included in private, corporate, and museum collections worldwide. Liz is the author of "Painting Brilliant Skies and Water in Pastel" and has created 10 instructional DVD’s for ArtistsNetwork.tv. Her paintings are represented by the Vose Galleries of Boston and at Cecil Byrne Gallery of Charleston, SC.
