Still Life Painting with Jafang Lu

18 June, 2018 to 22 June, 2018

USD 599

Studio Incamminati, School for Contemporary Realist Art
340 North 12th Street, Suite 500, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

In this workshop, students will learn to develop a painting utilizing simple still life objects. We will spend the first 2 days of the workshop exploring different compositions in tonal and color studies. At this stage, students learn to compose objects of different shapes, values, colors and texture to achieve and create different visual interests.

Students will then develop a 3-day painting based on one of the studies. The focus at this stage then shifts to paint application, form and focal point development.

Our workshop lectures and discussion will center on (but not limit to) how and what to think about when creating a still life painting, how shape/value/color/texture of the still life objects come into play to create different visual effects. Instruction includes demos, lectures and critique at students’ easels.

This workshop is suitable for students with different skill levels. Students will expand their knowledge base and build on their existing skill sets. Managing one’s expectation based on one’s experience and skill level can prepare students for the workshop and make it both a learning and enjoyable experience.

Instructor JaFang Lu received the 2012 Leeway Foundation for Art and Change Grant. She holds a Bachelors of Art from the City College of New York University.
