The Grand Central Academy of Art will be hosting a lecture on Giovanni Battista Moroni given by Robert Bunkin, who is a figurative painter, art historian and former Curator of Art at the Staten Island Museum. In 2019 the Frick Collection will host the first NY exhibition of Moroni’s extraordinary portrait paintings. Although Moroni’s work is found in most major art museums around the world, his work is still under-known compared to his contemporaries such as Titian and Veronese. This talk will explore the fascinating works, mostly in American museums, of this Renaissance master, whose realism was a forerunner of Caravaggio and Velazquez.

The lecture is free and open to the public and takes place on Friday, January 19, 5:30pm at the Grand Central Academy of Art 46-06 11th Street, Queens, NY 11101.

Seating is limited. Please RSVP: or visit for more information.
