“The emphasis of my entire career has been quite simply, the pursuit of capturing beauty. This quest has not been carried out with a hedonistic aim, but rather it springs forth from a sincere aspiration to share that which I have found so life giving. The concept for this painting originated in part from studying the working habits of the great masters and viewing photos of them working with models in their studios.  I truly believe these artists were of a common purpose, trying with all of their might to fully express the beauty they were bathing in. While this work of art was not created as a literal self-portrait, it was painted as one, in essence, as I sought to align my sensitivities with those who have been drawn to explore the richness of beauty captured and shared.” - Daniel Gerhartz
