This intermediate course is designed for those comfortable working in oils and looking to expand their capacity to paint the flesh in rich and heightened notes. Taking consideration from color theorists Munsell, Itten, and Hensche, this class will review basic color theory and apply its principles to the human figure. Our focus is the study of immediate impact of light on form through exaggerated color usage, which, over time, trains the eye to detect and implement sophisticated color.

Once students gain proficiency at this stage, the next step is adjusting and refining these color passages, becoming more aware of the subtle value, hue and saturation differences. Upon competent color calibration, students will break down these larger relationships into smaller ones. Accurate form development will result from clear understanding and careful observation.
