Completed at age seventeen, this self-portrait will stand as a marker of my improvement and growth as an artist. In it, I gaze into the distance, curious and contemplative about my future. As my expression is quite hard to read, it represents not only the hope but also the fear I may have regarding the future. Despite this, when I look at the piece I am reminded of the people that have encouraged me through the process of creating it and am comforted.
