"So Begins the Green" was painted in the early spring of 2020, just outside of the tiny Wisconsin town of El Paso. It is tucked in the valleys around the Rush River, and I'd wager that there are days when the fly fishermen double the town's population. I stalked this pasture for about a week, waiting for the beige to begin its surrender. I felt this place foreshadows the landscapes further west. The undulating rhythms all roll towards the well-worn middle ground that creates a connectedness between the right and left of the canvas, so that no matter how far our gaze strays, there is always a way back to common ground.
