Brian Bailey formerly a professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York has won numerous awards for his work in pastel and has been featured in select exhibitions both nationally and abroad. He actively teaches and travels internationally for workshop instruction.
He was the recipient of the Prix de Pastel (Grand Prize) at the most recent International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) Thirtreenth International Biennial in 2019 for his work "Listen". This painting was also a finalist in this past years 15th Arc Salon and was exhibited both Sotheby's NY and the MEAM in Barcelona, Spain.
His work "Contemplation" was awarded "Best Nude Runner Up" in the 14th International ARC Salon and was exhibited at the MEAM in Barcelona, Spain. This work was also exhibited at the 3rd International Pastel Biennial 2019 in Suzhou, China and was awarded Grand Prize.
In 2020 he was the honoree at the 4th Biennale Internationale Pastel D' Opale in France where his pastel works were part of a solo exhibition.
He is a member of the Pastel Society of Americaand the International Pastel Societies where he has attained Master Pastelist and Master Circle status respectively. His work has been part of numerous select exhibitions at the Butler Museum of Art in Youngstown, OH as well as exhibitions at the Salmagundi Club and National Arts Club in New York City. His work is held in various public and private collections most notably the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. where he has two portraits in the permanent collection.
He has participated in exhibtions the last two years at Artlife Fest in Moscow, Russia exhibiting over ten figurative works each year. Additionally two still life works were exhibited in an international group pastel exhibition, "Art of Pastel" at the Penza Museum, the oldest museum in Russia. One of these works, "Squash with Leaf" went on to win Honorable Mention at the National Pastel Society of Russia Annual Exhibition. This work was also recognized as a finalist in two categories (Still Life and Fully from Life ) in the 15th ARC Salon in 2020.
Most recently his work "the Note" was one of his featured works in his figurative exhibition at Artlife Fest 2021 in Moscow, Russia. This painting was awarded as a finalist in the ModPortrait 2021 competition and was chosen to participate in both live exhibitions in Spain, currently to be viewed at the MEAM in Barcelona.
