Chatillon s/Saone
Jan 19, 1900,
My dear friend,
I had only one painting, admitted de facto (+/-) at the Universal Exhibition. I sent only one other for submitting to the Jury. I wish to point out that this last painting belongs to the State and is allotted to the Luxembourg Museum (title "The Saone river at Lironcourt"). The painting I shall exhibit is of the same size (q meter) and was exhibited like the "Saone at Lironcourt" at the 1898 Salon. They are the two paintings, lifted in totality, that you placed in pendants. I am only asking one thing, it is that they are placed at the exhibition in the same way they were at the Salon.
I could have presented several works, but, owing to the difficulties on which I don't want to battle, I thought it was better to be modest in my pretentions.
I hope that I shall be rewarded and that my painting will be accepted.
As it belongs to the Luxembourg although unframed or hooked, I believe that this will weigh in the decidion.
To summarize, I am relying on you to nhave this painting admitted.
I still don't know when I shall be back to Paris. I am working hard. My wife and myself are sending to you our best wished and hope to have your when you will be in Paris. Last year, from adjournments to adjournments, we did not see each other and I hope to make up for the lost time.
Cordially yours.
M
