Sammy Watson (1940 - present) resides in his hometown of Battiest, Oklahoma, a small town in the Ouachita Mountains of the beautiful Southeastern part of the state. He lives there with his wife of 45 years, Elsie, and spends a lot of time with their 2 children, their spouses, and 6 grandchildren.

He is regionally renowned in Southeastern Oklahoma as a portrait, animal, and wildlife artist. Many of his subjects are local to his rural area - both people and wildlife. He also is known for his agriculture-themed works.

Sammy was trained formally at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton OK, and at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK. While there he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education. Sammy also trained for 3 years in Famous Artist Schools studying Commercial Art.

Sammy is the recipient of numerous art awards in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana during the past 38 years. Eighteen times he was selected as Portrait Hall of Fame Artist for Eastern Oklahoma State College. Mr. Watson has created, and in many cases sold, more than 3,000 works through the years, selling artwork throughout the U.S. and abroad. He has also illustrated 2 books, and done cover artwork for 2 additional books. Mr. Watson has also taught art in public and private schools for the past 51 years.

Sammy recognizes that his talent is a result of God's blessing, and his own hard work over a lifetime of practice. He has been inspired through the years by artists such as Norman Rockwell, Andrew Loomis, Frank Covino, Rembrandt, and DaVinci. He strives to reach perfection in his work, yet realizes it will never happen. He, however, continues working to improve his skill with each new piece of work.
