“Pictures are bits of life”, as Sitka Charley, Jack London’s Native American character, used to say. You don’t know what happened before the instant captured in the painting, nor can you anticipate what would happen next. You can only see “the now” - a moment frozen in time, as if caught in amber. You can take your time to study all the details and dwell upon each and every stroke and line, and see the life in all its beauty in these small bits. You can finally see everything that, unfortunately, we so often lack time to admire.

Evgeniy Monahov is a passionate Russian painter whose works have featured in prizes, exhibitions and collections in the US, Spain, Russia and China. He sees his style as sitting at the intersection of realism and expressionism, and focuses on representing the pure beauty of everyday life: shadows on hair in sunlight, the glow in a person's eyes, the silvery light of morning. Monahov values the incompleteness and imperfection of impressionism; the hint of a masterpiece, the expectation of a miracle.

Evgeniy Monahov was born in Moscow in 1974.

1996 - graduated from the Surikov Academic Art Institute in Moscow.

2001 - Monahov exhibited his works for the first time at the Richard Thomas Galleries, California. From that moment onwards, his paintings started traveling around the world.

2002 - graduated from V.I. Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute and entered into the Creative Union of the Artists of Russia and the International Federation of the Unions of Artists.

2002 – started working with the Medici Gallery (London, UK) and Oriel Gallery (Dublin, Ireland). At Oriel Gallery, his works were exhibited next to the paintings of the classic Irish artists, whose art could also be found at the nearby National Gallery of Ireland.

2004 - Santa Fe mayor and the Fine Art Museum director invited E.Monahov to a big-scale U.S.-Russian culture project, Russian Summer in Santa Fe, where he participated in a collective exhibition at the Andreeva Gallery, together with the top Russian artists.

The same year, an exhibition at Whitestone Gallery, Japan, was launched.

2005 - Monahov’s solo exhibition at the Andreeva Gallery (Santa Fe, USA) took place, which became known as a notable event in the cultural life of the city.

2006 - a long-lasting cooperation with Galeries Bartoux (France) has begun. Monahov’s paintings have started being exhibited at Champs Elysees (Paris), in Cannes, Honfleur and Courchevel.
