Unlike other major capitals, Berlin currently lacks any ARC-approved ateliers or dedicated training programs for artists focused on realism. Recognizing this gap, artist Peter Kasim—originally from the UK and based in London—founded Berlin Portrait Academy to provide instruction that rivals the quality found in cities like London, Florence, or Barcelona. While tuition is currently part-time—as Peter also teaches part-time—the long-term goal is to develop a full-time, immersive program designed to bring students to the highest level of ability in oil painting.

Peter trained at the ARC-accredited London Fine Art Studios and received direct mentorship from Alex Tsavaras, a distinguished artist and instructor. This background gives him a deep understanding of figure and portrait painting, along with the ability to clearly communicate foundational principles to beginners. He paints ‘Alla Prima’ and draws inspiration from masters such as John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, Richard Schmid, and Jamie Coreth—artists known for their realist approach and economical brushwork that celebrates the expressive quality of oil paint.

Looking ahead, Peter plans to expand the academy to offer full-time courses, aligned with the standards of leading ARC-approved institutions like London Fine Art Studios, the Barcelona Academy of Art, and the ateliers of Florence.

Founder & Instructor

Peter Najad Kasim is a professional 2D and 3D character animator, art tutor, and traditionally trained draftsman and oil painter. Drawn strongly to the visual arts since childhood, he went on to animate characters for major film and video game projects, including The Hobbit Trilogy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Disney’s The Jungle Book, and Grand Theft Auto V.

Peter’s animation and traditional art practices are interconnected. Working in oil and charcoal offers both observational refinement and a meditative, hands-on creative process.

In 2018, he received the Next Generation Fund from London Fine Art Studios for his work in charcoal and oil, an experience that shaped his technique and artistic path. He also studied under master portrait painter Alex Tsavaras, whose mentorship continues to inspire his painting.
