New Work Added to Live ARC Salon

April 18, 2017

We are pleased to announce that Transfiguration by Joseph McGurl has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“One meaning of the word transfiguration is to change from a certain state of existence to another more beautiful state. Sketching on location forces me to confront the continually evolving landscape. As I am painting, I see the natural world in a constant state of transfiguration moving from one beautiful state to another uniquely beautiful state. Transfiguration is an imaginary scene, but it is a synthesis of several landscapes I’ve seen and painted over the years. The setting, a tranquil marsh scene in the early summer evening with a dying wind, brings rapid change, and each minute has its own particular beauty. The osprey stand and fly traps are indicative of man witnessing this transfiguration, and they also serve as compositional elements. The features of the landscape depicted serve as a vessel to hold the lighting which is symbolic of the spirituality I find in the natural world.” – Joseph McGurl
