ARC Atelier Day

May 26, 2017

The Da Vinci Initiative along with the Art Renewal Center hosted its first ever Atelier Art Education Day on May 19, 2017 at the Salmagundi Club in New York City.

This event included free entrance to the Art Renewal Center Salon exhibit that features 83 works of contemporary realism. There were free portfolio reviews from world class atelier schools, including the Florence Academy of Art, Ani Academies, Grand Central Atelier, NYK Academy and Studio Incamminati. There were also two artist demonstrations occurring throughout the day by ARC Living Master and ARC Salon Judge, Dan Thompson, representing Studio Incamminati and Cornelia Hernes, second place drawing category winner, representing the Florence Academy of Art. Eager students enjoyed the opportunity to see world class artists drawing and painting during the demonstrations. Additionally, many high school students held engaging conversations with the atelier schools conducting the portfolio reviews throughout the day and are eager to have atelier training fit into their future educational plans. Students also received a guided tour of the ARC Salon Exhibition by Dr. Vern Swanson, and a tour of the Salmagundi Club by the clubs Chairman, Tim Newton.

The participating art educators were equally enthused, with several of them already expressing interest in bringing their student groups back for the next event.

The Da Vinci Initiative is fundraising to attend additional state educational conferences this fall. Attending state conferences allows DVI to provide professional development workshops to public school teachers in atelier training techniques and to spread general awareness about visual literacy and skill-based training in the visual arts.
