About Bouguereau
April 17, 2009
The French artist Bouguereau was the greatest of the 19th century academic painters. I have always been in awe of this artist. He was as fine a technician as any painter who has ever lived. His design skills were incredible and his color though restrained, makes his figures seem alive. I think his ability to paint the figure and the color of flesh is unmatched by any other artist who has succeeded him. | by William Bouguereau |

In this year's catalogue, ARC Chairman, Fred Ross' speech to the American Society of Portrait Painters delivered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be included in its entirety:"Mr Ross was interrupted at least 10 times to thunderous applause or peals of laughter, as he blasted Modernism and its chief icons, Picasso, Mattisse and DeKooning, with some of the most biting, yet truthful satire that has ever been heard in those sanctified halls."Click here to read this speech which has been read by over 100,000 people each year and has become required reading in countless art courses around the world. | ||

Letter from Denmark
April 11, 2009
I’ve just finished reading the 6 pages of ARC philosophy and I’m amazed and very grateful.
You are describing to the point what I have been quietly holding in my heart for 20 years of painting. The idea that something is wrong. I have felt so alone with my thoughts for so many years, I have felt wrong, different, difficult and outside when being the child crying that the emperor is not wearing any clothes. So thank you, thank you, thank you for putting it out there and for making me feel that there is a point in going on - and also for giving me new energy to keep believing in art.

The Art Renewal Center is proud to present the award winners and finalists in our fifth International ARC Salon®: Competition. This year we had well over 1600 entries from 30 different countries.
Once again the quality of work submitted to this year's competition is living proof that the great traditions of representational painting, drawing and sculpture are alive and those who would seek guidance can find the support and tutelage necessary to master them. With so many quality entries, we found it necessary to add a semi-finalists tier to help narrow the field before the final choices were made and we will be listing the semi-finalists at the end of this Salon posting.
