Congratulations to ARC’s Living Master John Angel!

4 April, 2011

ARC is proud to announce that Florence, Italy’s Museum Villa Peyron now includes one of our Living Master’s paintings.
Entitled “Annigoni 1954”, it is a portrait of Pietro Annigoni (1910–1988) an Italian portrait and fresco painter, greatly influenced by the Italian Renaissance, who rose to international fame after presenting his famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in 1956.
Having been a student of Annigoni, John Angel pays excellent homage by way of this portrait. We extend every possible congratulation to John and are proud to have his “Angel Academy of Art” in Florence, Italy as a member of our ARC family!

As an interesting side note, several quotes attributed to Pietro Annigoni, that have survived the test of time, reaffirm our ever vigilant stance on Modernism.
Here are two of our favorites:
"Impulse alone does not make a work of art."
"I am convinced that the works of today's avant-garde are the poisoned fruit of a spiritual decadence, with all the consequences that arise from a tragic loss of love for life."

Made You Look – An Insight into What the Public Really Wants

2 April, 2011

Ophelia Ophelia by Sir John Everett Millais Longest Look - 30 minutes Hirst Colours: Anthraquinone Diazonium Chloride by Damien Hirst Longest Look - 30 seconds
The ARC recently came across a fascinating article by the British newspaper, The Daily Mail. Visitors to the prestigious Tate Britain, in London, were unwitting participants in an experiment to determine whether the general public is truly as interested in modern art as the art establishment would have us believe. The Tate Britain houses the most comprehensive collection of British art from the year 1500 to the present day. This combination of traditional and modern art made the museum a great choice for the experiment, which studied in great detail the viewing patterns of gallery attendees - in particular which paintings held viewers' attention for the longest time. As you will see, their results were quite conclusive, and will probably come as no surprise to followers of ARC... The now, well documented behavior shows that most people have absolutely no real interest, whatsoever, in Modern Art. In fact, they are spending an average of less than 5 seconds in front of even the most major works of Modern Art, in comparison to the several minutes they are spending in front of and contemplating the major realist works. Click here to read the full article in The Daily Mail newspaper.
