New ARC Living Master™

1 June, 2014

Hsin-Yao, having already developed a signature style, has had his work recognized by the major art magazines of today, as well as by an unprecedented number of highly prestigious galleries. Hsin-Yao's technique in oil is brilliant and sure; he paints in a Romantic, expressive manner that honors the Western tradition while signaling an edgy, contemporary complexity. Hsin-Yao has a curiosity and energy that propel him toward experimentation and innovation. Accordingly, he works in a range of genres, from lush evocations of San Francisco and other cities, to expressive portraits and finally to lustrous interiors in which multiple figures enact a story.

Delaware Museum Loses Accreditation

1 June, 2014

"WILMINGTON, Del. --The Delaware Art Museum lost its accreditation and its ability to receive loaned works from many museums Wednesday, one day after the museum sold one of its most famous Pre-Raphaelite paintings to help pay its bills.

A committee of the American Alliance of Museums, a national museum advocacy organization, voted unanimously Wednesday to remove the Delaware museum's accreditation.... The Delaware Art Museum's first painting up for auction, William Holman Hunt's Isabella and the Pot of Basil, sold for $4.25 million in London Tuesday, a record for a Holman Hunt work but far short of Christie's low estimate of $8.4 million."

When Your Lover Has Gone
by Gordon Hanley
Fascinated by the drawings of da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo, since 2009 Gordon Hanley's art shifted from watercolor painting to drawings in the Renaissance medium of metalpoint. Moving from the more traditional silver on paper, most of his recent work features drawings in 24ct gold on paper with prepared grounds of his own design and development.
Using continually evolving techniques, he has moved this ancient art form into previously unexplored territory, opening it up to new possibilities. His current work in this medium features still life, figure work and portraits. He is now recognized as one of the world's leading artists in this medium.

New ARC Allied Organization™

3 June, 2014

Streamline art video is a division of Streamline Publishing, Inc., which publishes Fine Art Connoisseur and PleinAir Magazines. The division was founded on the premise that art education is the foundation necessary for all artists and video is a convenient tool for those who cannot take the time to attend art school or workshops. Streamline felt it could improve on the quality of production of art instructional videos, giving videos the same quality aesthetics the magazines are known for; good design and quality content. Streamline sought out a video team with experience on major motion pictures in Hollywood, as well as experience as an artist and understanding art, with an end result of more focused, quality productions with strong appeal to those learning art. The division has produced numerous videos featuring ARC masters and also provides the annual ARC video prize to the Best in Show winner of the International ARC Salon Competition. This video features the artist's technique (demonstration) plus interviews with ARC Founder Fred Ross, a tour of the Ross Collection, a review of the year's top winning paintings and more. Streamline offers a variety of videos in figurative, portrait, plein air/landscape painting.

Artists’ strong emotional response to "Why Realism" by ARC Chairman Frederick Ross

2 June, 2014

"I really wanted to tell you that I read every word of WHY REALISM. Absolutely brilliant! Combined with your past essays exposing the fraud that is modernism, your writing has been like a concert to my heart. --------

When I began reading the A.R.C.'s philosophy several years ago, I felt an incredible relief. Finally someone was defending traditional realism with persuasive eloquence. Modernism was actually being called to question and exposed for the shameful harm it has brought to the visual arts for over a century. THANK YOU for your wonderful efforts in setting art back on its foundation."

Juliette Aristides Lecture June 12th

5 June, 2014

ARC Living Master™ Juliette Aristides is "a painter who seeks to understand and convey the human spirit through art." What does that mean in terms of the way she approaches her work, and the decisions she makes as to what to paint and how? Juliette discusses how her art has evolved over time, and how she feels about being a 'traditional' realist in an era when such art is often ignored or marginalized in the mainstream art world. Included is a discussion of the core values she thinks are most important to convey to her students.

New ARC Letter from Julio Reyes

4 June, 2014

Vessels by Julio Reyes
"I must take the opportunity to tell you what an honor it is to be a part of your collection, and how truly grateful I am to you and to the ARC Salon Competition. ARC helped my career in a huge way early on, and when it really mattered; when I was nobody from nowhere. The endorsement, and patronage provided the kind of financial and emotional support that kept me pursuing my life's dream, giving me the means, courage, and confidence to push on. What's more, this morning Candice and I learned of the results of this year's Salon Competition, and we were jumping around the living room, overjoyed, appreciative, and feeling truly blessed! What more can I say, other than, thank you - thank you for supporting us and so many other artists out there, and for standing up for quality, meaning, and substance in the arts. I will keep painting to the best of my ability, every day, for as long as I can; and if by chance, I'm able to leave behind an artistic legacy that outlives me, then I hope you know you had something to do with it."
