Figurativas '15 Competition Results

3 July, 2015

At the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art), the jury of the Figurativas'15 recently judged the finalist paintings of the competition of the Foundation de les Arts i els Artistes, a contest in which 2,459 artists participated from around the world.
The winner of the First Prize for Painting is Manuel Castillero Ramirez’s work, The Day in which the Silence Reigned in Congress. The piece, considered by the jury very critical with the current political situation, shows a chamber completely destroyed, abandoned and overrun by nature. 1 July, 2015

Throughout his career, John Singer Sargent created portraits of artists, writers, actors, and musicians, many of whom were his close friends. Because these works were rarely commissioned, he was free to create images that were more radical than those he made for paying clients. The exhibit brings together about 90 of these distinctive portraits, including numerous loans from private collections.

The exhibit will run from June 30 - October 4, 2015 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art - 1000 Fifth Avenue (at 82nd Street), New York, NY 10028.

The Representational Art Conference 2015

4 July, 2015

The Representational Art Conference 2015 (TRAC2015) is the premier international art conference focused on the philosophical underpinnings of representational art in the 21st Century. This year TRAC will explore the roots and principles of representation as they emerge after postmodernity. What are its guiding principles? Are there aesthetic themes that connect works of representational art?

TRAC provides a platform for discussion. It does not aspire to establishing a single monolithic aesthetic for representational art, but to identify commonalities, to help to understand the unique possibilities of representational art, and perhaps provide some illumination about future directions.

TRAC 2015 will take place at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach - 450 East Harbor Blvd., Ventura, CA 93001 from November 1 - 4, 2015.
