California Art Club 106th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition

The California Art Club, an ARC Allied Organization™ , is holding it's 106th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition.

This year's Gold Medal Exhibition spotlights nearly 200 representational works of art from renowned contemporary-traditional fine artists, who have been active in expanding the interest in the plein air and classical arts heritage associated with the organization's beginnings in 1909.
During the exhibition, the California Art Club will present events and educational programs that enable art enthusiasts to learn more about classical art forms.

The exhibition is being held at the Autry Museum of the American West 4700 Western Heritage Way, Los Angeles, CA 90027-1462 from April 9 to 30, 2017.

New ARC Approved Atelier™

The Rob Gutteridge School of Classical Realism is a new school, created by Rob Gutteridge in 2016 in Adelaide, the capital city of the state of South Australia, Australia. It provides atelier training in realist art with a focus on painting and drawing the human figure. Rob Gutteridge has been an artist and teacher for more than 40 years. His school developed out of the growing need expressed by local aspiring realist artists and students, for traditional skill based classical training in painting and drawing.

Mandy Hallenius, DVI President in Epoch Times

Mandy Hallenius, an artist and art teacher, says children can master the skills needed to draw or paint whatever they can imagine. To help children gain these skills, as well as open up many avenues for cognitive development, the classic method of training visual artists should be salvaged from the past and incorporated into the curriculum today. She co-founded the DaVinci Initiative (DVI), with ARC Chief Operating Officer, Kara Lysandra Ross, with this objective in mind.

Treasures of British Art

Treasures of British Art presents a selection of paintings from the acclaimed traveling exhibition, providing a panoramic view of British cultural history seen through its art. Featured are examples by the pre-eminent artists of the British School: Anthony van Dyck, Benjamin West, Angelica Kauffman, Thomas Gainsborough, Thomas Lawrence, George Stubbs, and John Singer Sargent.

The exhibition runs now until April 23, 2017 at the Denver Museum of Art, located on 100 W 14th Avenue Pkwy, Denver, CO 80204.

ARA Boston News

The Academy of Realist Art, Boston, an ARC Approved™ atelier, launched its fifth annual scholarship competition for promising artists with a love for academic style painting and drawing. The scholarship to be awarded is for one year's free tuition for the school year, September 2017-June 2018. The competition is open to any student not currently enrolled at ARA Boston. This is a unique opportunity to jump start your classical training in a fun and supportive environment.
Deadline for submission is March 15, 2017. Winners will be announced April 1st, 2017. Details can be found here.

New ARC Living Master™

Greg Hildebrandt and his identical twin brother, Tim, were born in Detroit, Michigan in 1939. Both boys were avid artists from a young age and carried their artistic passion with them throughout their childhoods.

In 1975, Greg and Tim illustrated the first of a series of Lord of the Rings calendars for Ballantine Books. This series launched them into international fame with over a million calendars sold, and the name The Brothers Hildebrandt® was born! In 1977, Lucas Films hired the Brothers Hildebrandt to create the movie poster for first Star Wars film, Star Wars: A New Hope.

Velázquez Portraits: Truth in Painting

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, located on 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10028 is holding an exhibition of Velazquez portraits from now until March 12, 2017.

Seven exceptional portraits by Velázquez, including The Met's iconic Juan de Pareja, are on view in this focused exhibition, which shows how the artist captured the variety of human experience. Two paintings from the Hispanic Society of America Portrait of a Young Girl and Cardinal Camillo Astalli-Pamphili were recently cleaned and restored at The Met and are also displayed.

Every canvas tells a story, and each flower she paints represents survival, not only as a plant, but for what that strength portrays about the human condition.

Project Home Artists Exhibition

Studio Incamminati has partnered with Project HOME to provide foundational drawing classes to the homeless. Participants in the program develop the empowering life skills needed as they transition from homelessness.

The show takes place at Studio Incamminati, School for Contemporary Realist Art, Fifth Floor, 340 North 12th St., Philadelphia, PA on January 17, 2017 from 6 - 8 p.m.

Academic Splendor: Nineteenth-Century Masterworks from the Dahesh Museum of Art

The Dahesh Museum of Art is the only institution in the United States devoted to collecting and exhibiting European academic art of the 19th century. Masterworks features paintings and sculptures by creative artists trained in the academies and private ateliers of France and other countries, including Jean-Léon Gérôme, William Adolphe Bouguereau, Lord Leighton, and Lawrence Alma Tadema.
The exhibition takes place at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens - 829 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32204 from January 27 - April 16, 2017.

Truth and Vision: 21st Century Realism

Inspired by Robert C. Jackson’s 2014 publication, Behind the Easel: The Unique Voices of 20 Contemporary Representational Painters, this exhibition surveys the state of realistic painting at the start of the 21st century. Indicative of this moment are two trends in representational painting–the depiction of the natural world and the creation of fantastic imaginings. Featuring artists from throughout the United States and Canada, Truth & Vision: 21st Century Realism reveals the contemporary developments in a mode of painting historically tied to the greater Brandywine Valley.
The exhibition is taking place at the Delaware Art Museum, located on 2301 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, Delaware 19806 from October 4, 2016 - January 22, 2017.

Valentin de Boulogne - Beyond Caravaggio
