Arts in Rome, an ARC Approved ™ school is immensely pleased to receive internationally renowned award-winning artist, David Gray, who will be teaching his remarkable oil painting techniques. To enjoy the workshop you need to be a member of the Arts in Rome Cultural Association.
In the workshop, David will teach the application of the painting medium as he applies it in his own professional work. This five day workshop will cover: underdrawing and underpainting, overpainting, glazing and making minor adjustments as necessary. In addition students are encouraged to ask any other questions applicable to the art making process. In past workshops David has discussed other topics such as: composition, personal art making philosophy, and many other related topics.
"Though I strive to keep the class fun and upbeat, we move fast and cover a LOT of material in a short amount of time. It’s really going to benefit the student who has a firm grasp of drawing and oil painting basics."

Daniel Gerhartz: The Continuum of Beauty
Published on April 12, 2018
ARC Living Master tm Daniel Gerhartz is holding an exhibition of thirty-one paintings. It is the artist's first major retrospective. It includes many new, never before seen works.
"His subjects hover between traditional figurative painting and portraiture; only about five percent of his production is true commissioned portraiture.
Gerhartz often depicts an interrupted moment, as if the sitter has just realized the artist’s presence. In the majority of his paintings, he relies on his wife, children, or a friendly farmer as models. These paintings are not portraits per se but rather vignettes, archetypes of maternal love, childhood simplicity, or grandfatherly affection; they often evoke an earlier and more humble way of life."
The exhibition runs April 14 - July 29, 2018 at the Museum of Wisconsin Art, 205 Veterans Ave., West Bend, WI. The opening party will be held on April 14, 2018 from 2:00–5:00pm.

2018 ARA Boston Figure Painting Competition
April 11, 2018
At ARA Boston, an ARC approved Atelier, their academic training allows students to render what they see to a great degree of truth. ARA Boston is an enthusiastic exponent of the atelier's method and techniques. 2017 was a year of upheaval. A renewed political awareness led to massive protests not seen in decades. The 2018 Boston Figure Painting Competition seeks to join that conversation.
This year's pose will be taken directly from a nineteenth century work by an academic master. It will be up to the competitors to give the pose a new context that will alter its original meaning and make it relevant to a contemporary audience.
Deadline for application is April 15th.
The competition runs from July 30th to August 4th, 2018.

ARC Associate Living Master™ and award winning artist, Tina Garrett, is holding a 5-Day Painting the Portrait from Life workshop at The Florence Studio in Italy.
Beginners on all levels are welcome to participate. In this 5 day format, Tina will share her complete process for beginning and finishing a portrait from life.
Learn to see and simplify values, create form, and understand edges and chroma to control your composition and create dramatic portraiture.
