ARC Call For Entries: Deadline August 14th

The Art Renewal Center is now accepting entries to the 15th International ARC Salon Competition, offering over $130,000 in cash awards, $25,000 for best in show, as well as publication, exhibition, and purchase opportunities. The ARC Salon is the largest competition in the world for representational artists painting, sculpting and drawing. The competition is open to all representational artists worldwide.

New Stephen Gjertson Interview on Skill-Based Art

Skill-Based Art: A Learning Resource for Art Students & Artist-Teachers has republished yet another video interview with Stephen Gjertson, who is a longstanding artist of the Classical Realist tradition that was trained by Richard Lack in the 1970s. In the interview, Mr. Gjertson elaborates on the stylistic conventions and philosophy of Classical Realism and his own training in it. Conversation regarding the creation of several key works which he has painted throughout his life is included which sheds light on his sources of inspiration, aesthetic considerations, and his painting process.

Caravaggio-Bernini: Baroque in Rome

Caravaggio-Bernini: Baroque in Rome is an exhibition of more than 70 masterpieces by Caravaggio, Bernini and their contemporaries. The paintings and sculptures are on loan to the Rijksmuseum from museums and private collections around the world.

The exhibition is on view 14 February – 13 September 2020 at the Rijksmuseum Museumstraat 1, 1071 Amsterdam, Netherlands.

FAA Student Exhibition 2020

The Florence Academy of Art is hosting an online exhibition of student works. Over 150 drawings, paintings, and sculptures produced by students during the six month school year and at home during lockdown will be displayed.

Red Chalk Global Draw Along Party with Charles Miano

Join ARC Associate Living Master Charles Miano and Gage Academy of Art on Thursday, July 30, 2020 on a journey of expression as he teaches the secret fundamentals of Red Chalk Drawing. Follow along in the comfort of your own home or studio while Charles explains the nuances of red chalk drawing as it applies to direct observation of the live model. Blocking-in shapes, tone masses, edges as well as morphology will be explained and demonstrated throughout the workshop. In addition, Charles will discuss the historical importance of red chalk and how masters such as Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael all utilized its tremendous potential.

PoetsArtists + 33 Contemporary “Painting the Figure Now" Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art

PoetsArtists + 33 Contemporary invite visitors to explore “Painting the Figure Now”, a new exhibition curated by David Hummer and Didi Menendez, with guest curator F. Scott Hess, opening at Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art October 8th. With a range of expressive styles, each artist feeds the imagination and considers the profound beauty of portraiture and figurative art through its multitude of forms and emotional complement.

ARC Living Master Anna Wypych and ARC Living Artist Gayle Madeira are among the artists participating.

14th ARC Salon in Fine Art Today

Fine Art Today recently published an article on the 14th ARC Salon Exhibition titled ARC Virtual Exhibition With Sotheby’s.

“There is an inborn awe… an innate reverence when one feels they are looking at a real person or object standing before them that is in truth, nothing but paint and canvas, graphite and paper or even earthen minerals like clay or bronze transformed.” Says Kara Lysanrda Ross, Co-Chair / COO of the Art Renewal Center. “Humanity has always had an innate desire to tell stories. ARTDATAintel Scholarships Announced

For that reason, in 2019, we launched ARTDATAintel, an inspiring Instagram initiative that brings insightful and unbiased statistics to help collectors and artists alike. In 2020, we became an ARC Allied Organization because we firmly believe in their marvelous higher purpose: 'To lead the revival of realism in the visual arts' and to act on that, we have embarked into a new, fascinating art initiative. We have scouted, curated, coached and sponsored 5 of the most talented artists from around the world and invited them to participate, most for the first time, in the prestigious ARC International Salon, aiding them with their entry costs to the competition." - Mauricio Gonzalez

Art and the Animal

Stamford Museum & Nature Center is holding The Society of Animal Artist's 59th Annual Exhibition “Art and the Animal”. The collection features over 50 paintings, drawings and sculptures of animals from around the globe, including exotic birds, majestic cats, mammals, and endangered species.

The exhibition runs from June 17 - September 7, 2020 at the Stamford Museum, 39 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford CT 06903.

The time has come!  Featuring 70 short video interviews with many of the exhibiting artists from around the world (2 hours of video content), a newly created digital exhibition catalog, and a virtual walk through exhibition space. Also included is a written interview with Kara Lysandra Ross covering topics such as the importance of representational art and why it is a good investment and a short video capturing the core philosophy of the movement including live footage of the exhibition while on view at the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, Spain.

Stephen Gjertson Interview

Skill-Based Art: A Learning Resource for Art Students & Artist-Teachers has republished a video interview with Classical Realist painter and ARC Living Master, Stephen Gjertson, which was recorded during 1996. Mr. Gjertson was part of the first cohort of students who were trained by Richard Lack in Minnesota during the early 1970s, who went on to become an influential teacher of the Classical Realist tradition. Mr. Gjertson has actively propagated the teachings of Mr. Lack throughout his life as well as writing two of Mr. Lack's biographies and continuing to paint images which celebrate his faith, family, and strong appreciation for artists of the past.

Nicolaes Maes: Dutch Master of the Golden Age

Through nearly 50 paintings and drawings, this exhibition follows Maes’s move away from paintings of historical and biblical scenes, where Rembrandt’s influence is most clear, to the scenes of everyday life and portraits that made him one of the most sought-after artists of his time.

Titian: Love, Desire, Death

In 1551, Prince Philip of Spain, the future King Philip II, commissioned Titian, the most famous painter in Europe at the time, to produce a group of paintings showing Classical myths primarily taken from the Roman poet Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’. This exhibition reunites all six paintings in the series, from Boston, Madrid, and London, for the first time in over four centuries.

Merica, by Debra Keirce

This exhibit features a collection of 15 miniatures by ARC Associate Living Master Debra Keirce that depict the artist's travels within the United States.

On August 6, 2020 Keirce will be doing an interactive painting demonstration where she will show some of her tricks for painting these palm sized works of art under a magnifying glass.

The exhibition runs from 7/1/20 - 9/3/20 at the Customs House Museum, 200 South Second Street, Clarkesville, TN 37040.

ARC Salon Call for Entries

We are accepting entries to the 15th International ARC Salon Competition now through August 14th. Compete in the largest competition in the world for representational art, offering over $130,000 in cash awards and international recognition through partnerships with prestigious magazines, galleries and museums, with live exhibitions and a strong online presence. The top award this year is $25,000 for Best in Show and over 140 awards and honorable mentions are being offered. Categories include: Figurative, Portraiture, Imaginative Realism, Still Life, Landscape, Plein Air Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Animals, Fully From Life, and a special category for teens.
