Crossing Realities

Published on November 30, 2022

The ARC Approved® Miami International Fine Arts (MIFA) is holding an exhibition including works by instructors and founders of the school and gallery.

"Collectively, the artists participating in the exhibition Crossing Realities - Figuration and Symbolism assume painting as an interface between several realities; their own as a material object, that of representation as a system of semiotic and perceptual conventions, that of the physical world that pre-exists and conditions it, and that of the sensibility that drives it and gives it meaning. All these instances coexist on the canvas, tensing its surface, violating its edges and making it an epiphanic event from which emerges, at last, another possible reality. Now, as before, painting and the painter must coexist with otherness and affirm from there its own existence." - Felix Suazo , Curator

The exhibition runs from November 4, 2022 - January 12, 2023 at MIFA 5900 NW 74th Ave. Miami 33166.

Vittore Carpaccio: Master Storyteller of Renaissance Venice

Published on November 30, 2022

A leading figure in the art of Renaissance Venice, Vittore Carpaccio is best known for his large, spectacular narrative paintings that brought sacred history to life. Although for centuries he has been loved and celebrated in his native city for his observant eye, fertile imagination, and storytelling prowess, this exhibition marks the first retrospective of the artist ever held outside Italy.

In a focused selection of some 45 paintings and 30 drawings, large-scale canvases painted for charitable societies are seen alongside smaller works that originally decorated the homes of prosperous Venetians. The drawings, characterized by a marvelous freshness of invention, include sketches for complete compositions as well as meticulously observed studies for individual figures.

The exhibition takes place from November 20, 2022 - February 12, 2023 at the National Gallery of Art, 6th and Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20565.

Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Illustration

Published on November 22, 2022

For hundreds of years, artists have been inspired by the imaginative potential of fantasy. Unlike science fiction, which is based on fact, fantasy presents an impossible reality—a universe where dragons breathe fire, angels battle demons, and magicians weave spells. With examples of archetypes from the last few millennia, Enchanted offers a thoughtful appraisal of how artists from long ago to the present have brought to life mythology and fairy tales, as well as modern epics like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. The exhibition includes themes such as children's tales, gods and monsters, knights in shining armor, and much more. Enchanted traces the development of fantasy art from Golden Age illustrators like Howard Pyle and N. C. Wyeth to classic cover artists and emerging talents. ARC Living Masters Julie Bell, Donato Giancola, Boris Vallejo, Greg Hildebrandt, and James Gurney will also be exhibiting.

The exhibition runs from September 24, 2022 - January 8, 2023 at the Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 E Kearsley St., Flint, MI, 48503.

Johann Gottfried Schadow - Embracing Forms

Published on November 10, 2022

Johann Gottfried Schadow was seen as the founder of the Berlin School of sculpture. Schadow came to epitomize German Neoclassicism, with his life-size double statue of Princesses Louise and Frederica of Prussia, known as the “Princess Group”, being emblematic of the movement. As the first sculpture depicting two female historical figures, this work wrote art history, and continues to be a highlight for visitors to Berlin from right around the world. The first retrospective in some 30 years, this exhibition presents more than 150 of Schadow’s major sculptural, graphic and art-theoretical works, arranged into 11 thematic sections.

The exhibition runs from October 21, 2022 - February 19, 2023 at the Alte Nationalgalerie, 1-3 Bodestrasse, Berlin 10178, Germany.
