Home and Away
Published on September 5, 2024
Home and Away is an exhibition featuring paintings of international and local views of Sudley House in Liverpool, England.
The international views are all from the collection of the Holt family, the former residents of Sudley House, displaying their interest in travel, foreign countries and local customs. It is more than a decade since many of these works have been on display.
The exhibition includes views of Liverpool and the local area in the 19th century, while the Holts were at Sudley. These paintings largely come from the Walker Art Gallery's collection and give a wonderful idea of what the Holts would have seen as they went into the city for shopping, business or leisure.
Works by John Atkinson Grimshaw, Jean Leon Gerome, Thomas Creswick, Frederick Goodall, Charles Trevor Prescott and Eduardo de Martino are among the works on display.
The exhibition runs until February 26, 2026 at Sudley House, Mossley Hill Rd, Liverpool, L18 8BX, United Kingdom.
