This 5 day workshop painting the landscape plein air in oils is suitable for beginners to advanced landscape painters.
The workshop will take place in different locations within walking distance from SARA (and potentially a short bus journey away to Baskemölla). Participants should be physically fit enough to walk to locations up to 45 mins away and participants should bring a packed lunch.

Materials needed:
– Any kind of plein air setup (field easel, pochade box and tripod etc.)
– 10 x Painting surfaces (recommended either fine linen canvas panels or gesso panels) of small or medium size (recommended 20x30cm, 24x30cm)
– Oil paints (suggested palette titanium white, cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre, cadmium red, magenta, transparent brown oxide, ultramarine blue and viridian)
– Brushes (a range of sizes, recommended bristle and one or two small pointed detail brushes)
– Medium of choice (optional, recommended linseed oil)
– Rags/paper towels
– Stool/folding chair if desired

Participants can expect to paint two paintings per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon with regular critiques. At least two demonstrations will be given (with one being on the first morning) where Tom will paint and talk through his process. Participants can observe and ask questions at any time and paint along if they wish to. A location will be chosen for each day and students are free to choose their own subjects.

Tom graduated from SARA in spring 2025 and has been an active painter since, travelling and painting the landscapes in the USA, UK, Norway and Asia. Tom was rewarded the Hudson River Fellowhip in 2024.
