Join us as we open the doors of Donato Giancola's studio to the public once again, showcasing scores of works, new and old, including recent commissions from Magic:The Gathering and book illustrations for Uprooted by fellow Brooklyn author Naomi Novik! Of special feature is a new oil painting interpreting Phillip K. Dick's novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, executed as a provate commission. As companion futuristic works, hanging will be two oils in the empathetic robot series, Prometheus, A.I. and Radiation.
What is becoming a near permanent homage to J.R.R. Tolkien, two exhibition rooms will be filled with drawings and paintings inspired by Middle-earth. From Gandalf and the Balrog on Zirak-zigil to the epic Fellowship in Hollin to the recently reworked Lunch with William, Tom and Bert to over a dozen drawings on paper, this will showcase my continued explorations in this rich and dynamic world.
The studio and home will be peppered with scores of classic works, displaying the range of commissions undertaken thoughout my twenty plus years as a painter. Included will be the inspiraitonal Joan of Arc and the very first cover commission from Tor Books for a reissue of The Time Machine by H.G. Wells, the beginning of my professional career.
Visitors will also see works from the 2015 A Song of Ice and Fire Calendar for George R.R. Martin, the cover of The Hobbit graphic novel, and board game art for Stratego. Two large format porfolios of drawings will be made available for those who wish to peruse the insightful and detailed process taken to achieve the realism in the oil paintings.
Special discounts on giclee prints, books, DVDs. drawings, and oil paintings will be offered.
Light refreshments and snacks provided.
