I think that in the right hands, non-representational work can be richly executed. But most of what I've seen is useful only as a set of illustrations for philosophical questions asked by Reductivist/Modernist art critics. I.e., critics ask what art element is being discarded in this work, and does it then still qualify as art? If so, is it more pure with or without element X? An interesting exercise, but not as much art as experiment.
