Drawing Synthesis

From Graydon Parrish

Juan,

It seems, too, that the more I want to finish a drawing or painting, especially if the lighting is diffuse or frontal, the more I have to rely on my knowledge. This is likely why so many who try to match Bouguereau fail without a profound knowledge of structure: anatomy, geometry and morphology. Moreover, I cannot achieve anything without thinking on my palette. As I progress, I make more and more mixtures on the palette... half steps in value, hue, and chroma.... and fewer on the canvas.
