I may have just wrecked my favorite brushes: some Escoda hog bristle brushes, 2 filberts and a flat. I've been cleaning them with Turpenoid, but felt they deserved the finest and gave them a rinsing with warm water and dishwashing soap. The result: an unpleasant limpness at the ends and the hairs fanning outwards from the ferrule. I've shaped them as best I could and set them out to dry, but I want to know what went wrong? Also does anyone have any cleaning tips for painters using damar? I've noticed it's especially hard on brushes.
Thanks all,
Brad
