William Bouguereau - Cold?

After reading more on the ARC site about William Bouguereau I have looked over most of his gallery. I have to agree he is a master of the brush, anatomy, etc. But most of his works tend to be, for lack of a better word, cold, and based on the same formula over and over. I am not sure if it's a lack of imagination or just a matter of painting just what sells to make money but there is something missing. Maybe a lack of emotion, but something. And of course that's not true for all his works; with some there is that something extra that is missing in most. Any thoughts on exactly what's missing in a lot of his work?

I don't say this just to troll but to understand what's lacking.

Thanks and God Bless,
Patrick Lawrence
