What a complete waste of time. You have got to be kidding me. I have been a professional artist for roughly 30 years now (portfolios.com/gregghinlicky), and in that time I have made use of whatever techniques or equipment might be at my grasp to complete whatever project I'm working on. At times I've traced, used an opaque projector and gridded thing up in size. None of this has any bearing on art. Give a "tricky" tool such as Hockney hypothesises about to a common shmoe and let's see if he creates a Mona Lisa. Who cares whether the masters "cheated" or not. It's moot. Give up this foolishness, Hockney's free to guess whatever he wants and his opinion effects nothing.
