I want to thank you for artrenewal.org. I am 34 years old, and like so many others I graduated with art degrees and had never heard or seen most of the paintings here. I remember the fist time I opened the site and I thought to my self "WHAT! I didn't know paintings like this existed." "Why didn't they show these to me in School." Perhaps I can get my 60,000 dollars back. I won't hold my breath.
I feel, to a certain extent, to be a casualty of modernism. From the time I was young I wanted to be a painter. When I went to college I learned that the art world was now nothing more than a tightly knit dictatorship that you practically have to be born into. So I went into digital art. I now live in Los Angeles and paint flat unlit paintings so that the computer can calculate light and shadow on Shrek's pores. It's somehow ironic isn't it, Picasso taught us that the canvase was flat after all.
My children will know more.
I will make a contribution as soon as I am able. [...]
Sincerely,
Sam Gebhardt
