Letter to ARC

Published before 2005

I was sent this website by a friend of mine with whom I share a fondness of Hudson School painters such as Thomas Cole. She is always looking for online resources that display art online since we cannot go to all the museums ourselves. For creating that archive I applaud you. However, I was really blown away by the philosophy and meaning behind the website. I had given up on believing that there was anyone in the art world who believed in talent over concept as a basis for great art. Since I am not an artist, nor have I ever taken an art history class, I let my instincts tell me what is good and what is not. I really am attracted to art that requires and exhibits great talent. I am ecstatic that there is a movement within the art world against the modernist junk I usually avoid seeing anytime I go to an art museum.

One suggestion I have to improve your website would be to display in the article outlining your philosophy those works of art, both good and bad, to which you refer in the text. Or at least provide links to your database of paintings. For those of us not familiar with all of the names you use this would be of great assistance. Thank you for all that you are doing and keep up the fight.
