I just discovered your site this morning by accident. I knew of Bouguereau and it was hands down favorite artist of all time at first sight. I was searching for info about Emile Bayard, and noticed one of the links mentioned a connection between him and Bouguereau, and that was your site. I was AMAZED at the images you freely offer, THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! I love Bouguereau's art so much! I haven't had time to read much of your articles, but briefly skimmed the philosophy... beyond words ... I was an Art major at UNC in the early 70's ... they HATED what I wanted to do, and I HATED what they wanted me to do, so I dropped out, marveling at the stupidity of so-called modern art ... I discovered Bouguereau about 5 years ago, thru Forest Lawn Cemetary, Glendale CA. They have some great artwork, and I purchased some posters over the phone. The lady (Yvette Ludka) mentioned they had something named Song of the Angels, so I ordered one of those sight unseen. I was amazed at the quality, an artist after my own heart, not a lazy slob who throws paint at a canvas and wants big bucks for his crap ... Since then I've bought many things of B's. One book mentioned how B. was both beloved and hated at the time of his death. They didn't need to explain anything, I knew exactly what that meant. They hated him because they were jealous and lazy. Jealous of his energy and talent, envious of how people loved him and his work. It was their own laziness that was their problem, they only wanted the fortune and fame, but not the work! B. painted because he LOVED it, and delighted in the details and beauty of it all ... they just wanted fame and glory without paying any price, and hated him ... yada yada yada ... you know all this ... still going strong today ... lazy jerks who think they are artistes! it's all about ego and pride, slothfulness and envy ...
One of my complaints of many artists, it seems they need glasses, their paintings are all fuzzy and sloppy ... They may complain the B's work is too much like a photograph, but that's because they can't come close to his quality, so make up a "sour grapes" reason why it is BAD to boost their
bruised egos!

I am not a painter, but an aspiring sculptor. I work in miniature and use fimo and sculpy to make portraits and such ... I haven't made anything in over 10 years, but am about to start work again ... I have much hope for the future! :-)
