So often I have heard Bougereau referred to as controversial. Recently, while cleaning out my desk I found my old Pomegranate Postcard Bougereau set. The beauty of the pieces speak for themselves, anything else is simply intellectualizing. It seems so long since I purchased this set late in 1995 that I had forgotten the effect these beautiful works had upon me at the time - enough to drop everything and take up art lessons.

Now, I think the only way to handle one who would denigrate Bougereau as a simple "Academic Painter" is to hand them a card and ask them "Is it not beautiful?".
