I began training at 15 in a small atelier in my hometown, Columbus, Ohio. There I studied the fundamentals of classical realism under Michael Cooley for three hours a day after school and six hours a day during the summers. I completed the program at age 18. While in high school, I was a three-time winner of The US Congressional Art Competition, with my work hanging in the Capital Building in Washington DC for two consecutive years.
Upon graduating high school, I entered the Florence Academy of Art and I am now completing my second year. In my first year, I was awarded both the best figure drawing of the year and the best cast drawing of the year. I’ve also been awarded a work-study scholarship to help pay for my education.
I plan to finish the program and hope to stay for a residency year after graduating. This summer, I will teach my first set of workshops on figure drawing at a studio space in Columbus. The workshops will consist of 4 classes each, and students will learn to work from a live model using the methods of the old masters.
